Welcome to Gaming Security ..And Things Like That

So welcome to my blog. I've been asked a few times to create one, but to be honest, I just never thought I would have the time. Over the last few weeks there have been a few things going on in my industry that finally got me to the point of actually wanting to write things down.

So first things first, I work for VASCO Data Security, INC. This blog does not reflect the views of VASCO, and it is not actually affiliated with VASCO in any way. I'm not here to try to sell you on security or to tell you how VASCO can make your life better. I'm hopefully here to add information on what I see as being an industry professional working in the gaming space.

Here's a quick rundown on what I think I'm going to be writing about:

  • General Security Concepts
  • Interesting Security Threats
  • Security Technology (Past, Present and Future)
And whatever else seems to fit in those areas. (I maintain that I am very scatter brained and my mind wanders so you could end up with a little bit of everything if this goes well)

I play games, I've played games for years. I've beta tested more games and software programs than I have fingers and toes. I can read and write code, but I have never done it for a 3d game. I have done it for web site and flash games and other things like that. I have worked in the online industry since 1992 (yeah that's not that long ago, but I still remember my first MUD). I live and breath online security today for all kinds of applications. This blog will hopefully be a collection of notes on the my experiences and a working space for discussions around those experiences.

I guess I'll fill in my bio soon too as I'm sure it will help everyone understand more about my mindset and where I come from. Needless to say, just because I've been doing this for a while doesn't mean that everything I say or do is law. So please leave me comments and let's have an open discussion. If you don't like the way I describe something and think you can do it better, great let's hear it. I work and play better when people talk to me. So let's see if we can get a lively bunch of readers and really add some interest to the security world.

I'll post my first real write up shortly and then we can see where we go from there.

-Will
